Wantagh, NY – Boy Injured in Watercraft Accident Near Jones Beach

Wantagh, NY (June 27, 2021) – On Sunday, June 27, a boy was injured in a watercraft accident on a beach in Wantagh.

According to police, the accident happened on Jones Beach near Field 10. An 8-year-old was swimming in the water when he was suddenly struck by a personal watercraft. The driver of the craft remained at the scene.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were present at the scene. The 8-year-old boy was seriously injured and was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment. He is expected to recover from his injuries.

The driver of the watercraft, identified as a 30-year-old man from the Bronx, was arrested. Police have since charged him with operating a boat while intoxicated by alcohol, reckless operation of a vessel, operating a watercraft without a safety certificate, and more.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
