East Quogue, NY (July 25, 2021) – At 11:15 p.m. on the night of Saturday, July 24, a head-on collision occurred in East Quogue that took multiple lives.
According to officials, the accident happened on the Montauk Highway. A Nissan Maxima with only a driver was traveling west when it collided with an eastbound Toyota Prius head-on for unknown reasons. The vehicles involved in the accident were extensively damaged. A resident told police that the sound was so loud that it was like a train striking a bus.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. Four people were pronounced dead at the scene and one person was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police confirmed that one person was also critically injured in the accident.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time as police cleared the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
