Flanders, NY (December 14, 2020) – Around 2:27 p.m. on Monday afternoon, December 14, three people were injured in a head-on crash in Flanders.
According to the Southampton Town Police, the accident occurred on Flanders Road around the area of Bay Avenue. At the time, 77-year-old Edward Sorenson was driving a Subaru westbound with his passenger, 57-year-old Gearlyn O’Brien. His vehicle collided with a 25-year-old Jamel Mercer’s Chevrolet Impala headed eastbound. The vehicles collided head-on.
Both Sorensen and O’Brien were injured as a result of the accident. They were transported to the Stony Brook Hospital for treatment of their injuries, though their conditions are not yet known.
The roadway was blocked in the area for approximately 1 ½ hour until police were able to clear the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
