Manhattan, NY (October 24, 2021) – At 10 p.m. on Saturday night, October 23, a pedestrian accident occurred in Manhattan.

According to police, the accident happened at the intersection of Delancey Street and Suffolk Street. NYPD was conducting a checkpoint at the end of the Williamsburg Bridge when a motorcyclist did not stop. The motorcyclist struck a metal barricade, causing it to strike the officer.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The officer, who has not yet been identified, received a leg injury in the accident. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of the motorcycle that struck the officer was arrested. He has since been identified as 36-year-old Brian Weldon. He is now facing charges of assault, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs, refusing to take a breath test, and more.

The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.

No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
