Manhattan, NY – Woman Killed in Fatal Fire at Columbus Ave Apartment

Manhattan, NY (February 18, 2021) – Around 8 p.m. on Wednesday night, February 17, a woman was killed in a fatal fire in a Manhattan apartment.

According to police, the fire broke out at the Douglass House apartments at the intersection of Columbus Avenue and 101st Street. Fire crews found that the third floor of the apartment was engulfed in flames when they arrived. The blaze was contained to only one unit.

Paramedics and numerous other responders were present at the scene. A 72-year-old woman inside the apartment unit was located by fire crews underneath her bed. They confirmed that she was unconscious and unresponsive and pulled her free. She was tragically pronounced dead at the scene of the fire.

The investigation into the circumstances of the fire continues.
