Queens, NY – Anastasios Tsakos Killed in Pedestrian Crash on Long Island Expy

Queens, NY (April 27, 2021) – Around 2 a.m. on Tuesday morning, April 27, an officer was killed in a pedestrian crash on a highway in Queens.

According to police, the officer was working on the Long Island Expressway and diverting traffic near the area of the Clearview Expressway. He was suddenly struck by a vehicle head-on before the driver of the vehicle took off without stopping.

Paramedics and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene. Police confirmed that the officer, identified as 43-year-old Anastasios Tsakos, was taken to a Flushing hospital in critical condition but later died.

Police later found the driver who caused the accident, identified as a 32-year-old woman from Long Island. They discovered that she was under the influence when she struck the officer. She has since been charged with manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident, driving while under the influence, and many other charges.

The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
