Staten Island, NY- Child Injured in Read-End Crash on Staten Island Expy

Staten Island, NY (July 16, 2021) – On Thursday, July 15, a child was injured in a rear-end crash on a highway on Staten Island.

According to local police, the accident happened on the Staten Island Expressway around the area of South Avenue. A pickup truck was traveling westbound on the highway when a Volvo rear-ended the truck due to reasons that are not yet known. The Volvo then slammed into another vehicle.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately called to the scene. A child was located in the back seat of the Volvo when the accident happened. The child was severely injured and taken to a local hospital with critical injuries.

The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for an extended period of time as police cleared the scene.

No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
