Staten Island, NY (July 11, 2021) – At 6:27 a.m. on Sunday morning, July 11, a child was killed in a fatal house fire in Staten Island.

According to FDNY officials, the incident took place in an apartment at 69 Hillmeyer Avenue. The apartment complex caught on fire in an area that is not yet known, spreading quickly. Over 100 firefighters were called to the scene to put out the fire. When fire crews were able to access the building, they found a child inside.

Paramedics and numerous other local responders were called to the scene. The 9-year-old boy, who has not yet been formally identified, was pulled to safety and was found both unresponsive and unconscious. The child was immediately taken to Saint John’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The area was blocked for some time until fire crews got the fire under control.

No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
